We go through life inmersed in the waters of duality, the potent and fertile ocean of Shakti, stirring the waves of our consciousness to get lost and found in an eternal dance of polarity.
She is the face of Her Beloved Shiva. They play this game of concealing and revealing Reality to experience all the forms of creation in its abundance, and also, in its dissolving impermanent nature.
He is the great sustenance for Her unstoppable urge to inmerse Herself in Life, in Death, in Creation, Destruction and Recreation after each dissolution into His arms, again and again.
Like in every New Moon when they fully embrace, and know Her path will take Her apart once more, only to reflect His light and shine even brighter during the Full Moon.
Our lives also wane and wax like the moon, and like Shiva and Shakti, we are not separate from the void, and not separate from the experiential reality of change.
On the great night of Shiva (Mahashivaratri, 8 or 9 March 2024) let us all remember to embrace Shiva and Shakti as One, disguised as the Many. The Unity in Duality. Let us not forget the sacredness of a life lived in a world affirming devotional practice without the need to escape the sometimes excruciating and painful world we live in.
We meditate from the caves of our hearts where Their union takes place eternally, but we leave our eyes wide open to the experience of being embodied in a time and place, that more than ever, needs our discerning compassion.
Happy Mahashivaratri! Om Namah Shivaya. Jai Mā. Mahadev.
